Luke Grout who attended Arts & Media School, Islington from 2001 – 2006
What qualifications did you achieve at Arts & Media School?
A* GRAPHICS, A ART, D SCIENCE, B ENGLISH, C MATHS
When did you leave Arts & Media and what did you do next?
I left in 2005 and went on to get my A-Levels. I went to drama school for about 5 minutes but then was signed (unbelievably) as a model. After doing that for a few years and getting to travel, I went to Central Saint Martins School of Art and used my modeling contacts to get internships.
What is your current role?
Advertising Creative (I draw, write and shoot all the ads you see on TV and in magazines)
In what way did your time at Arts & Media influenced your education and career progression?
I would say it really taught me to push myself – particularly in graphics and art. I still use the perspective drawing techniques Mr Bethell taught me and I have Mr Young to thank for my handwriting!
What is your fondest memory of Arts & Media School?
Bunking off PE to draw in Graphics (whoops)
What is your favourite pastime?
I love my work…so honestly, it’s what I love to do most.
What is your proudest achievement?
Gaining my place at CSM, and getting my first job!
What advice on careers would you give to current Arts & Media School students?
Stay focused on what you love to do most. The chances are it’s what you’ll still want to do when you’re older – and you can get PAID to do it!
