MFL Barcelona Trip

Our year 10 and 11 MFL students are currently having a wonderful time visiting the amazing city of Barcelona! They are enjoying a packed expedition of cultural sights, educational activities and fun on the beach!

It’s currently raining in London.

@AMSI_school students end up the day visiting Park Güell to enjoy Gaudí from above.

@AMSI_school
students visited @institutcanet School in the morning, beach in the evening. Socialising by the sea…

6€ budget to shopping and feed your roommates adapting to food in another country and cooking in a hostel… What a challenge!

Musician of the Week: Matthew Y11

After Isabella’s fantastic performance last week of the ‘Prologue from Beauty and the Beast’, for this week’s ‘Musician of the Week’ we are showcasing one of our fantastically talented YR11 vocalists.

This extremely impressive performance of the Bill Withers classic ‘Lean on Me’ is performed brilliantly by Matthew

Year 7 Football Team

Yesterday our year 7 girls football team played their first 7-a-side tournament for AMSI in the Islington cup.

AMSI girls managed to get to the semi-finals before losing to Beacon High. Our girls did very well to qualify from a tricky group after winning 2 games.

Well done to all the team, keep up the great work!

Musician of the Week: Isabella Y11

After Michael’s beautiful performance last week of Debussy’s ‘Clair de Lune’, for this week’s ‘Musician of the Week’ we are showcasing one of our fantastically talented YR11 pianists.

This extremely impressive performance of the ‘Prologue from Beauty and the Beast’ composed by Alan Menken  is performed brilliantly by Isabella.

Year 8/9 Basketball Teams

Yesterday we kicked off our Year 8/9 Basketball league with both girls and boys teams. Unfortunately both teams lost but it was good to host COLA-I and credit to the girls team who played a whole team of year 9s whereas all of our team were year 8s!

Well done to all the students who took part in the tournament!

‘This Girl Can’ Arsenal Trip

The Sole Sisters spent the majority of the school day at the Emirates, where on rotation, they were coached by the Arsenal coaches at the hub and were taken on a tour of the Arsenal Football Stadium. The standard of football amongst the girls was high, as were their spirits! The girls fully engaged in the session and impressed the coaches with their skills, even managing to score against one of the coaches in goal!

The stadium tour was fantastic, with the tour guide giving the girls the inside scoop on the inner workings of the stadium and the team. It was a great day and everyone, without exception, went back to school with a smile on their faces!

Members of the Sole Sisters physical activity club took part in a focus group, with Denise from Islington council. The girls shared their views on physical activity and told us what they did and didn’t like and what they thought would help teenage girls to become more physically active on a regular basis.

Thank you to all of the girls that shared their insights with us in the focus groups, it will help us shape future work with girls in the borough.

A little later that morning, the head teacher came to see the girls, where she delivered a motivational speech. The head teacher also kindly thanked Denise for her work with AMSI girls, presenting Denise with a thank you letter for her work with the girls at AMSI.

Musician of the Week: Erin Y11

For our first ‘Musician of the Week’ of the school year, we are showcasing one of our fantastically talented YR11 vocalists.

This extremely moving performance of ‘As the World caves In’ by Matt Maltese is performed brilliantly by Erin.

Thank you, as always, to the featured students for their resilience in investing hours of practice and dedication in perfecting their incredible performances and to our fantastic instrumental tutors for supporting and mentoring our aspiring musicians.

To see past performances please check out our Music Gallery where we will also be adding another performance next week from one of our very talented YR11 pianists…

AMSI Literary Festival

Four days, four authors, five year groups and fifteen workshops at the inaugural AMSI Lit Fest!

This has been an excellent addition to our extra curricular provision. The speakers were diverse and relevant to our young people and really supported the whole school priority of reading for pleasure. Congratulations and a very special thank you to Ms Ackerly and Ms Zipfel for really going above and beyond with organising this such a wonderful festival.

The Authors:

Breis

Year 9 had an energetic start to the day with a whistlestop tour of the history of hip-hop from the charismatic @MrBreis culminating in a captivating performance. He encouraged them to channel their inner lyricism by adding REAL SPICE to their writing.

Thank you so much BREIS!

Yomi Ṣode

Yesterday our KS4 students were privileged enough to spend a couple of inspirational hours with @YomiSode who got them to reflect on the importance of resilience and asked the question, “Could we be more?”

Thank you so much Yomi! We can’t wait to read #manorism @PenguinUKBooks

Jasmine Richards

Our Year 7 students heard a powerful and inspiring message from @JRichardsAuthor today: “Reading gives you the keys to the kingdom” and “where you start doesn’t determine where you’ll end up.”

We couldn’t agree more Jasmine!

Alexandra Sheppard

Our Y8 students have had a fabulous day with the brilliant @alexsheppard, creating their own modern deities and thinking about all things mythical!

Thanks so much Alex! We particularly love this rather bewitching Goddess of Music created by one of our very own @AMSI_school students!
