Dear Parents and Carers,
We as a school are saddened to hear about the worsening situation after the huge earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
On Monday morning, a huge earthquake hit the southern city of Gaziantep, followed by a series of aftershocks which devastated parts of Turkey and Syria. Later in the day, a further earthquake hit the Elbistan district, to the north of Gaziantep.
At the time of writing, it is thought that over 5000 people have died as hundreds of buildings collapsed, and nearly 20000 people are thought to be injured. These figures are continuing to rise.
We as a school are aware that many members of our community have friends and family who live in the region. Our thoughts and best wishes are with you and your families at this time.
If any students feel they may need additional support at this time, we would encourage your children to speak to one of our schools DSL’s, call or text AMSI Safeguarding on 07507623505 or use the Safeguarding form on the website to request support.
To support the humanitarian response to the crisis, we have decided that Thursday 09 February will be a non-uniform day. The school’s Senior Leadership Team will have buckets for donations at the front door, and we request students donate £1 to wear their own clothes, or whatever they can afford.
All proceeds will be donated to the British Red Cross’s appeal, which is liaising with the Turkish Red Cross to provide medical support, help the rescue effort and evacuate people.
If you wish to donate directly, please do so using the following link:
Thanks,
Mr McLoughlin
