Last week’s session was Yoga, led by Denise Lake, a Teen Yoga teacher. The yoga practice was designed with teenage girls in mind, with the combination of postures complimenting their physical and psychological development.
The girls were taken through a series of limbering postures, before doing warming sun salutations, with the final round of salutations being taught by one of the girls from AMSI! The girls were introduced to various standing and balancing postures and worked towards the peak postures, both Tree (a standing balance) and Crow (an arm balance), with ALL of the girls achieving a version of these.
Throughout the practice, the girls were engaged and approached the postures with a combination of curiosity, humour, concentration and calm. The session ended with a relaxation session and 6 rounds of Bhramari (bumble bee breath), which had the girls in fits of giggles, but left them all feeling calm, grounded and happy!
