For the past 6 weeks a group of Year 8 Students have been embarking on a creative project with Cubitt Arts. Cubitt Arts was awarded Lottery funding to deliver a 6 week interactive project with AMSI entitled “70 Conversations”. This project was inspired by conversations that make a difference to strengthen communities and bring everyone together.
Students had the opportunity to work with Nadia Josephs whose father worked with Nelson Mandela on the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. Nadia herself led the Islington movement against apartheid. This led to the interaction between the younger and older generation through guided discussions and interactive creative projects. AMSI students also worked with artist Mai Omer to develop their skills in filmmaking, photography, research and planning.
On 29th June AMSI students, and Cubitt Arts planned a celebration party for all in the Islington community. It was lovely to see so many AMSI staff and students be part of the celebration and interact with the elderly residents. Thank you to all of the staff members that attended the party in the park, I hope you had as much fun as the students.
