CPD to support T & L – individually and Whole School

“Every teacher needs to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better.” Dylan Wiliam 2012
Our lesson observations are effective, low stakes, focussed on quality teaching, less stressful, non-judgemental, developmental and essentially reflective of everyday practice. AMSI Learning Moments Acknowledgements (ALMAs) take place throughout the year by the DHT – Teaching & Learning.
AMSI Ed is our version of the very successful international ReseachEd. We have a keynote delivered by a member of our teaching staff followed by mini CPD sessions that are run by teachers for teachers to support good practice; this runs at least once a year and it is thoroughly enjoyed by all who participate and present.
The following non-exhaustive list represents examples of evidence to support Performance Management as well as potential areas that contribute to CPD for staff:
- Email to confirm observed evidence of teacher standards during an ALMA.
- Peer observations of an aspect – email evidence of outcomes.
- Attendance to Research Ed meeting.
- Report on trying out Action Based research from the ResearchEd magazine or another source.
- Contribute to the Teaching and Learning AMSI newsletter.
- Share best practices at a department meeting – evidence in minutes.
- Share best practices with a colleague – ask them to drop you an email once they have tried it.
We actively encourage our staff to participate in development opportunities to support their professional development. Contributions to the AMSI Teaching Newsletter and AMSI Ed are welcomed and commended. At the end of the school year, each teacher has the opportunity to meet with the DHT – Teaching & Learning to discuss teaching practice and feedback on any concerns or highlights.
