AMSI students have been part of the Science for Life programme since October 2022. It is the first year AMSI have been participating in this programme within the Islington borough. As the only secondary school participating in the programme, AMSI students have been a great inspiration and leaders in leading the way of how to become scholars to local primary schools in Islington.
AMSI recently hosted a Science for Life workshop in collaboration with Gillespie Primary school, to extract the DNA of soft fruits such as strawberries, bananas, oranges and many more. On this occasion, AMSI students were able to safely lead the workshop as team leaders with a group of students and demonstrate how science can be fun to learn and take part in investigations. Students were able to follow a series of steps to collect the DNA of strawberries involving a range of scientific processes and chemicals, in which primary schools may not be familiar with. Students were successful in extracting the DNA of strawberries by the end of the workshop.
AMSI students were amazing in this collaboration event and continued to extract the DNA from other soft fruits to compare the DNA. Students have been amazing in working with a range of projects throughout the year.
Well done !
