The students have been embarking on a six week programme, working with University Dance lecturers and students to create a performance piece. The performance consisted of two pieces, one contemporary based piece, choreographed by Bryony Cooper (a Release based dance lecturer), and a hip hop routine created by Leroy Dias Dos Santos (a member of the dance group Flawless) who is also an Urban lecturer are Middlesex University. Alongside the lecturers three first year students, Dominica, Katie and Eden worked with our students on performance techniques and learning about the different career paths that dance can lead to. They also worked with two past University students Teresa and Matty who documented the project and got our students to think deeper about the reasons behind why they dance.
Year 9 & 10 AMSI students performed the curtain raiser for Middlesex’s New Horizons End of Year show. They performed alongside third-year students. Our students gave an amazing performance and represented the school in a really positive way. The University lecturers, students and audience members were extremely impressed with the standard of their work, commitment, behaviour and work ethic over the past six weeks. They received a multitude of positive comments and I am extremely proud of their journey and how far they have all come.
I have also recorded and photographed the event, but I am sure you would all love to watch it live at our end-of-year summer showcase in July.
A huge thank you to Dr Radzka and Trude Lamptey for supporting the project, especially on the day of the performance. Thank you to Tracey Warner and Louise Graham and the English department. Without you all the project would not have been the success that it was.
